Asbestos and mesothelioma

Asbestos is a carcinogen, fibrous, mineral that is used at times usually in construction, for the purposes of insulation. People who live or work in conditions where they are exposed to the asbestos fibres are at risk of developing mesothelioma. Despite its health hazards, asbestos is often used in construction, due to the fact that it is relatively a cheap material.

Therefore, the construction workers exposed to the mineral, and their families, are more at risk of developing this rare form of cancer. Workers take home carcinogenic fibres such as traces on their clothes, exposing the members of the family of the danger of developing cancer. A few weeks of exposure to asbestos can be sufficient to cause mesothelioma. In General however, mesothelioma has a latency period of 35 to 40 years of duration of exposure to asbestos to the real development of symptoms.

The old buildings that have exposed insulation containing asbestos or other areas where asbestos fibres are disturbed or exposed, must be verified by professionals and repaired or deleted. Asbestos fixed solidly and used as insulation in closed areas such as walls and pipes is not likely to constitute a health hazard to the pleural mesothelioma malignant, so long as it is not cut, drilled, or in any other way which may cause the fibers of asbestos to be broadcast in the air and be breathed.

There is no safe level of exposure. Therefore, people working with asbestos shall ensure that they are protected from exposure and that they do not asbestos dust on their clothes home to their families. Smoking and with levels of asbestos exposure can increase the chances of development of this cancer. However, not all persons exposed to asbestos develop cancer mesothelioma, genetic factors are involved.

Mesothelioma asbestos poisoning is usually fatal, and often death results in a relatively short period of time of the period where the symptoms first. In all of the United States, the number of cases of mesothelioma cancer is on the rise.
